Blueberry Pineapple Dump Cake

Awesome Recipe!!

Blueberry Pineapple Dump Cake
· 1 20 oz can crushed pineapple
· 2 cups of fresh blueberries
· 1 box of your choice of cake mix (I used white)
· ½ cup of melted butter

Drain off the pineapple juice (save it) and then just put the blueberries and pineapple in the bottom of the pain.
Mix the pineapple juice and melted stick of butter with the cake mix – spread over fruit
Optional (Can drizzle brown sugar on top)
Bake at 350F for 45-50 minutes

I wish you all could have seen Zoe and Jayden's reaction when we got home yesterday. Zoe just kept saying Oh my and Jayden just kept gasping and saying it's a house! We played in the rain and then it let up. It was worth it to clean up the wet and muddy kids to let them play on their new swingset. It was better than Christmas morning.

Now Zoe has deemed it the 'clubhouse.' Think she is taking that one from Mickey Mouse. =)

Beloved Books

My kids are both BOOK HOGS. They love to read and/or be read to. I just love when I see worn out books. It means that a child has loved that book so much until its last days. It signifies this book's story has been loved and cherished. It represents some of the best bonding times with my kiddos and I love spending this precious time with them.

So, yesterday my sad little girl was in the car sulking with her arms crossed and repled in a whimpy voice, "Issac is no longer my boyfriend. I can't believe I did all that stuff with him." My mind starts racing...what did she do with him? I calmly reply what happened. He said America is his girlfriend and he is going to marry her. I asked her what stuff did you do with him? She answered, "I spent all that time playing T-ball with him. Why did I do that?" Whewwwww I was relieved. I then just reminded her we didn't even know he was going to be on her T-ball team. She played to learn and have fun...not for a silly boy!

Funny how time goes on and you don't realize who knows - my story. Not only do I have a degree in Kinesiology/Sports Medicine, I also have a lot of personal experience in hospitals.

When I was a kid I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. After years of unsucessful treatments, I finally ended up at Cleveland Clinic and had an amazing experience and lifesaving procedure that removed by rectum and colon and now have an internal J-Pouch. Great Outcomes!!

My family has a joke because I am for the most part the well one and everyone else is in the hospital for one reason or another. So, personal experience and education makes me passionate about healthcare marketing and getting people to understand and get the care they need.

The saga of Jayden's lost shoe

About 4 weeks ago...or so -- we got home from school/work and Jayden was playing in the living room. All of a sudden, I noticed one of his shoes and sock was off. ~ Unusual for the boy who never wants to take off his shoes. ~ I found the sock and never found the shoe. I looked everywhere, like under beds, under the couch, behind and under and in everything. It was no where to be found. I even asked Jayden all the time, "Where is your shoe?" He would just shake his head. He only has 2 pair of shoes so I went to Kohl's and bought a pair (not ones that I really like). Then this morning I get a call from Zoe -- Jayden just walked up to her and handed his shoe to her. We still don't know where it was, but glad it's back!

Dad's hurt again...hip replacement surgery needed

Dad dad fell off his bike on Satrday afternoon. He was transported to Deaconess Downtown in Evansville, IN and as of now has fractured ribs, pelvis, and hip. He is going to need a hip replacement. We haven't found out yet when, but will probably Tuesday or Wednesday.

I too researched the doctors and hospital web site, but from my hospital work knowledge I know even more. Yes, I have constantly reaffirmed with mom and dad that dad needs an anterior hip replacement, BUT this approach is not just what the doctor is able to perform, but involves a special operating table as well. There are several reasons that anterior is better such as less blood loss, faster recovery, less chance of infection, mobility, less scaring, smaller incisions, and he would not be sitting on the incision - OUCH!

I even made mom watch a video on my iphone that showed the procedure from the posterior and what it all invovles. It's on youtube.com - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DosqbEy8ecY&feature=fvw

I have not been able to get out of anyone at Deaconess if they can even perform the anterior approach or if they have this operating table or if their Gateway campus does. I know St. Mary's and TriState Orthopedics does an anterior approach and does a good job explaining and suggesting the anterior hip. So, time will tell what next steps are.

Jayden is talking more and more

Jayden has really started talking more and more lately. He is waving and saying "hi" and "bye bye." He also is signing more and has signed all done for a long time, but is using drink and eat. 18 months is a fun time! He is walking like a rock star, but still unsteady on his feet at times.

I love that he is such a good sleeper. Pretty much 7pm - 7am still. I have to wake him up early for work days about 6:30am. He still gets plenty of rest.

Still doing his breathing treatments. Trying to get over his bronchitis he has the last couple weeks. Antibiotics is all gone, but still sounds congested and yucky.

What a crazy day. I got to ride in a cessna back and forth today...to bad I hate flying. Then the title company didn't send the paperwork for the Cincy house until 4:55pm and then I had to call upon friends to find a notary. Found one and got the paperwork to FedEx before they closed! Then I had to pick up the kids at Grandma and Grandpas and wouldn't you know it was bath night! ugh. I am exhausted!

Jayden started at the same daycare OR "school" as Zoe says. Just one drop-off in the mornings....ahhhhh life is good. Jayden is 16 months and really toddeling these days. He can walk across a room or take three steps and fall. I bet he will be a pro by the time Matt' s home this weekend. I love this age!

Zoe's had her week of birthdays last week. Tuesday was Matt's bday, Thursday was Zoe's, Friday was Holly's and Saturday the Zoo Party and Sunday the "family" party. It was a fun filled week for all. Hard to believe she is already 4 years old.

Moving to Evansville Update

So, we are on the second day of loading the "truck." I am looking at the window at the Atlas Van Lines trailer and the truck is pulling up right now. We will be here loading up all day today as well. So, we will probably be unloading for 2 days as well. They may have to "shuttle" our stuff because our new house is on a busy road. This means they will park the big semi at the local Evansville office and load our stuff on smaller trucks and shuttle it over. What a big pain the the booty. I didn't even know about the shuttle thing until yesterday. I hope this doesn't mean more broken stuff!!!

We are still in the process of moving home to Evansville, IN. We spent Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa Smith's. Zoe's face in the morning of Christmas was priceless! We was so amazed by how many gifts that Santa left.

Bead up the nose!!

So for days now, Zoe has been complaining about her nose hurting. There was no green snot just clear goop running from her nose. So, I reluctantly called the pediatrician yesterday. They were too busy to see us and just called in a perscription to swap her nose with. I then kept trying to get her to blow her nose and she kept crying that her nose hurt.

This morning when I went to get her...there was a yucky snotty small ball in her bed. As you can tell from the title..there was (well we think that's what it was) a bead up her nose.

Why didn't she just tell me there was something up her nose???? I asked her and she just shrugged her shoulders. Then I asked her what was that and she just shrugged her shoulders.

We may never know how long or what that actually was up her nose!

Jayden was not a happy camper when we got these pictures taken! He was crying and fussing like I have never seen him do before. I know he was tired, but I also think we was scared of the flash. Can you believe he will be the BIG 1 next week. Wow...the last year just flew by.

Methicillin Resistant Staph aureus (MRSA)

Zoe has had an ear infection since Labor Day weekend. After numerous trips to the pediatrician, I finally took her to Cincinnati Children's. They had to drain out her one ear, which was running with goo in her right ear. The same right ear lost its PE tube Friday morning. The other ear was full of wax and once the doctor dug it out, we discovered that PE tube was just sitting against the ear drum and had fallen out as well.

The culture came back and she has been diagnosed with MRSA. It is not contagious like other strains of MRSA. It is just contained to the ear.

Alright...if you go to Sam's Club be prepared to wait. I was in line the other day and normally I let people go in front of me if they only have a few items, but I had already unloaded my entire cart and was in a hurry. This lady kept rolling her eyes at me with disgust. I was a little annoyed.

Then she proceeded to tell the checker that - there should be a fast lane for people with just a few items. I wanted to say..."Go to Wal-mart. This is a whole sale club! Most people are here buying a ton of stuff it's not just me." But I didn't. I was a good girl. I just apologized and moved on.

Jayden is changing so fast and every day. He now has 7 teeth! 4 top and 3 bottom ones. He is also crawling everywhere and pulling up. He is going to be walking before you know it. He only really says mama, dada and baba which is such a switch. Zoe was such a early talker. He is so adorable and we love him to pieces.

Remember he doesn't hear too well and talking on the phone can be difficult for him, BUT I bet he would appreciate any calls he gets. He is there alone...mom went home to close on a house. She will be back in the morning before his surgery.

Well...dad is on his way to the hospital right now. He is being admitted to Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. I will post his phone number later today if anyone wants to call him.

His medication, blood thinners, will be switched from coumidin to heprin for surgery. He will be monitored today and possible surgery tomorrow or maybe Thursday.

My plan is to drop off the kids at daycare tomorrow morning. Then work a few hours and head to Jewish in Louisville. It's only 100 miles from my work, which takes about 90 minutes to get to. If he dosen't have surgery Wed, then I will stay the night and come home on Thursday after he is out of recovery.

By the way....Aug 23 is when I listed to dad's heart and it took over 2 weeks for him to get into a primary care physician, referred to a cardiologists, get testing and scheduled for surgery. Amazing to me that it takes that long!

First time using Healthgrades

Well, today I used HealthGrades for the first time. Yes, I paid the $12.95 to check out dad's cardiologist. It was worth every penny. Dr. Stidam is (as of right now) performing his pacemaker implant surgery. I found this great info below about it...

The heart has a natural pacemaker called a sinus node, which is made up of special cells that produce electrical impulses. The electrical impulses given off by the sinus node travel down electrical pathways located in the walls of the heart muscle and cause the heart to contract and pump blood. When the electrical impulses flow down the walls of the heart at regular intervals, the heart pumps at a rhythmic pace. When something interferes with the way the electrical impulses are made or the way they move down the pathways in the heart muscle, the body's natural pacemaker does not work properly.

If a patient has a heartbeat that is too fast, too slow, or frequently irregular, blood is not pumped efficiently around the body and the body's cells do not get enough oxygen and nourishment. In this situation, a physician may recommend that an artificial pacemaker be implanted in the body to ensure that the heart beats more regularly.

A pacemaker is a small, battery-operated device implanted just under the skin near the collarbone to help the heart beat regularly at an appropriate rate. Pacemakers are about the size of a matchbox and are used to treat heart arrhythmias — irregularities in your heart's natural heart rhythm. Almost everyone's heart skips a beat sometimes, and that is generally considered harmless. Some people, however, will need medication and/or a pacemaker.

A pacemaker usually has two parts: a pulse generator (which includes the battery and several electronic circuits); and a lead(s), (which is attached to the heart wall).
Pacemaker surgery is performed under local anesthesia. It is implanted just near the collarbone. If the pacemaker has only one lead, the lead is placed inside the lower right chamber. If two leads are needed, the second lead is placed in the upper right chamber. The procedure takes about one to two hours. An overnight stay is usually recommended.

I have now tried a mocha and a hot chocolate at the McDonald's Cafe. I paid $1.99 for a yucky hot chocolate covered up in whipped topping and hot chocolate sauce. I'm done with the McCafe and back to the $1 menu for me.

By the way....I got a hot chocolate at Speedway and it was better!

New update on dad's heart

Dad went to a doctor's office in Louisville. Had some tests and then when they asked about seening the doctor the nurse said the primary care physician (PCP) had not given a referral to see the doctor just tests.

So, the cardiology office called the PCP. She refused to give him a referral and was upset that he wouldn't go to Jasper for care. Needless to say he is getting a new PCP and then will have to get a referral to a cardiologist. The glorious world of Medicare! I am so glad that I have a PPO and I can go anywhere without a referral.

So, he did find out that he will more than likely need a pacemaker. The doctor didn't see him but the nursed hinted at it. He will probably have to wear a monitor for a few weeks and then go from there.

Well...so here is the scoop thus far. Dad has been having a lot of problems with vertigo this summer and was hospitalized for it and a low heart rate while in Maine. I think all of it is heart related. I listened to his heart on Sunday and it didn't sound right. Irregular heart beat and just sounds wierd (as you can tell I am not clinical by nature). What I am thinking is that he either needs to have his aortic valve, that was replaced in 1994, looked at or a possible pacemaker. We will have to see if my prognosis is right.

The primary care physician referred him to Jasper...but I finally convinced him to go to Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. They have an excellent repuation. Mom is calling now to get an appointment with a cardiovascular physician to evaulate what is going on.

So, I will keep you all posted.

First time every buying something in a pop-window online and my last. I order a free bottle of Acai Berry pills that I only had to pay shipping for. They charged me $87 three times and signed me up for a subscription for monthly delivery and some of their other products. So, I was charged over $400. THIS IS A SCAM!!! Don't by Acai Berry, Naturcleanse, TopBody, or Define-antiwrinkle products. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!

It has been a nightmare. All of these products are one company, but they make you call each number seperate. They try to confuse you by talking about all the products and argue with you. Even the supervisor was not very helpful. I am sure this saga is not over with.

Also, one of the phone numbers says it is not operational. How am I suppose to get this on cleared up..........

A really nice man emailed us this picture that he took of Jayden at the museum center on Sunday. We had a great weekend. We met up with Eric and Sue at A Day out with Thomas on Saturday and then the Cincinnati Museum Center on Sunday. I will post more pics later....when I have time.

Jayden is doing great. After one week of getting tubes we no longer have to give him any breathing treatments, no ear drops, no antibiotics.....we are just on Singular. Yipppeee!!!

Coffee snob

So, I find myself saying that I don't drink coffee, but that isn't completely true. I like a good cup of joe from Panera's Hazelnut or the best of all is Starbucks Mocha. But when it comes to a regular cup from a coffee pot...I usually pass. I normally don't have a cup a day, but like one cup a month. So, I guess I should say I normally don't drink coffee. =)
